“I have never laughed so much at a Contemporary Dance Performance!” – Audience Member after the show

– Auswahlkommission Freie Szene HTT21

“Making Impressions and Other Failures” is a duet that explores ecstatic and peculiar gestures as a bizarre way of relating to another person or making an impression while revealing deeper layers of oneself.

Two performers find themselves in a setting that could be a grand hotel or ballroom. Wearing oversized 90s tracksuits, they immediately appear out of ple. Tirelessly rearranging their plants, and greeting the audience, they dance expressive bursts of physical energy, only to find themselves back at the beginning in a loop, “doing nothing.” A mysterious character in a peacock mas controls the organization of time. With each loop, they strive to remember and repeat what happened before, seeking a deeper connection with each other and the audience each time. Inevitably, they fail to remember, they fail to “perform,” as the expectations continually change. By moving to higher extremes with each attempt, they repeatedly pay tribute to the power of the ridiculous, the humorous, and the human.
